Jessica Pyfer Wins Individual Gold at USEF Pony Jumper Finals
Burbank, California. Ten year old Jessica Pyfer brought home another show jumping gold medal for Zone 10 after winning the 2008 USEF Pony Jumper Finals individual championship. Pyfer’s steady, careful rounds over three different courses with her pony, Sosha, put her on top as no other rider managed three fault-free scores over the Level 3 (3’3") courses. "The best thing about Pony Finals was just being there in Kentucky," said Pyfer. "Getting clear rounds was great, and the triple combinations were fun. I felt really good getting the gold medal, and I want to try to go to Pony Finals again next year."
Amid the heat and humidity of an East Coast summer, Zone 10 was represented well by its pony jumper riders at the 2008 USEF Pony Finals, held August 13- 18 in Lexington, Kentucky. Team members Jessica Pyfer, Tommi Clark, Molly Dunn, and Isabella Pitts ranged in age from as young as ten (Pyfer) to as old as seventeen (Clark).
Aaron Vale stepped in to serve as Zone 10’s Chef d’Equipe, and the team earned a seventh place finish in the team competition. Despite Pyfer’s clear round score in the first round of the team competition, Zone 10's total score of 18 faults kept them out of the second round. Only the top four teams moved to the second round and Zone 7 won the team gold medal. Ten teams competed in the USEF Pony Jumper Championships which are growing in popularity.
Since none of the other three Zone 10 riders made the cut off for the Individual Championship, they competed in the Farewell Class. Tommy Clark took first, Molly Dunn was third, and Isabella Pitts was sixth.
The Zone 10 riders had a great time in Kentucky. "Showing at Pony Finals was really fun," said 12 year old Dunn, who was riding in her first Pony Finals. "My pony was really good, and Aaron Vale was a great coach."
