Lexington, KY - July 22, 2008 - The Kentucky Summer Horse Shows are fast approaching, with just one week left before the top hunter and jumper riders from across the nation gather at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. The two-week event is a combination of two horse shows, the Kentucky Summer Horse Show, which will be held from July 30 -August 3, 2008, and the Kentucky Summer Classic, scheduled for August 6 - 10, 2008.
Jumper riders will have the opportunity to compete in two grand prix events. The first is the $40,000 Kentucky Summer Grand Prix, held on Saturday, August 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the Walnut Arena, at the Kentucky Summer Horse Show. On Saturday, August 9, at 6:00 p.m., the Kentucky Summer Classic will host the $40,000 RV Sales of Broward Kentucky Classic Grand Prix.
The Kentucky Horse Shows are also the home of the Hagyard Challenge Series, sponsored by Hagyard Equine Medical Institute. The series offers $215,000 in prize money and a $50,000 Leading Rider Bonus. During the Kentucky Summer Horse Show, the $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic will be held in the Walnut Arena at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 31. The second $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic is scheduled for Thursday, August 7, during the Kentucky Summer Classic at 6:00 p.m. in the Walnut Arena.
After the Kentucky Spring Horse Shows, which hosted the first two events in the Hagyard Challenge Series, Danielle Torano and Margie Engle are currently tied for the bonus. Engle plans to attend additional shows at the horse park this year. "I like the horse shows in Kentucky. I think they are run well, and the footing is always nice. There's plenty of places to go ride, and I like the countryside," commented Engle.
The Hagyard Challenge Series Leading Rider Bonus will be awarded to the rider who accumulates the highest money earnings throughout the challenge. The presentation will occur after the final event, the $50,000 World Cup qualifying grand prix on Friday, September 26, during the Kentucky National Indoor Horse Show.
Come watch the top riders in the country compete during the Kentucky Summer Horse Shows at the beautiful Kentucky Horse Park. The park will also be hosting the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, and is the home of the United States Equestrian Federation.
